An Amazon Web Services outage wreaks havoc on the e-commerce giant’s delivery operations, prevents drivers from receiving routes or packages, and disrupts communications between Amazon and the thousands of drivers it relies on, according to four with the situation familiar people.
Three delivery service partners said an Amazon.com app used to communicate with delivery drivers was down. Vans that were supposed to be delivering packages stand still with no company communicating, the person said.
Amazon Flex drivers, independent delivery drivers who move packages in their own cars, cannot log into the Amazon app to receive tasks, another person said.
The issues arise during Amazon’s critical Christmas shopping season, when the e-commerce giant can’t afford delays that could potentially lead to permanent traffic jams.
Amazon did not immediately comment on the problems in delivery through a spokeswoman.
