Since the start of 2025, the scale of layoffs and downsizing at mega-companies worldwide has been alarmingly large. The list includes several companies such as Amazon, Oracle, Google, Meta and now BBC.

Last night it was confirmed that the BBC is laying off 2,000 staff worldwide. This is the largest layoff campaign in the company’s history.

On the one hand, several leading companies have stated that AI integration and reliance on machine learning are the reason for this decline in the human workforce. But at the same time, there is also the moral question of prioritizing AI over people who actually need financial resources to survive.

Nor is it the case that these downsizing measures are minimal or sustainable in nature. Companies have literally been laying off tens of thousands of employees almost every month, and that will never be a good sign for the human workforce…
