Amazon Web Services has expanded its support for the federal government’s most classified work with the introduction of a second “top secret” cloud region, the company said on Monday.

The AWS Top Secret-West Region will complement its existing top secret functions, which have been supported by the Top Secret-East Region, based in Northern Virginia, since 2014.

Together, the two locations enable AWS defense, intelligence, and national security customers to “deploy multi-region architectures to achieve the highest levels of resilience and availability that are essential to their most critical national security missions,” said Max Peterson, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector for AWS, wrote in a blog post on Monday.
