Amazon is shutting down its Amazon Drive cloud storage service – GeekWire

Goodbye Amazon Drive.

Amazon sent out emails to Amazon Drive users Friday morning to inform them that the company is shutting down its cloud storage service on December 31, 2023.

“We’re taking this opportunity to focus our efforts more on Amazon Photos to offer customers a dedicated photo and video storage solution,” Amazon says in an FAQ.

According to Amazon, photos and videos in Amazon Drive accounts were automatically saved to Amazon Photos.

“If you rely on Amazon Drive for your file storage, you must go to the Amazon Drive website and download your files by December 31, 2023,” Amazon noted.

Amazon Drive was launched 11 years ago. It competes with similar offerings from Dropbox, Microsoft, Box, and other software giants.

Amazon will continue to operate Amazon Photos, giving Prime members free photo storage and up to 5GB of storage for non-members.
