Amazon is ending Wickr’s user-centric encrypted messaging app

Just a year after buying the company, Amazon announced it would be ending user-centric end-to-end encryption app Wickr.

A little over a year ago, Amazon, more specifically Amazon Web Services, flashed its stacks of cash like it announced it was buying end-to-end encrypted messaging app Wickr. AWS users could suddenly be using Wickr’s services, and some reporters speculated that Amazon may have been trying to move into the increasingly crowded encrypted messaging realm.

That’s a lot of more unlikely now like amazon announced On Monday it shut down its secure messaging app Wickr Me. The tech giant said Wickr would instead focus on enterprise and public sector communications, specifically through AWS Wickr and Wickr Enterprise. The company will no longer allow registrations for Wickr Me after December 31, and a year later, in late 2023, the app will be just a puff of smoke and a memory.
