Amazon collaborates with Australian government to develop secure cloud infrastructure for defense purposes

Australian Government partners with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to strengthen national defense and security by signing a 2 billion Australian dollar contract. The contract aims to build a “Top Secret (TS) Cloud” for Australian intelligence and defense agencies, with deployment planned to begin in 2027. This decision is intended to enhance the resilience of defense communication networks and protect highly sensitive data. Additionally, the partnership with AWS will strengthen cooperation with the US military, aligning Australia’s IT operating environment with US defense forces. The US and the UK are already using AWS for handling sensitive information, making AWS an ideal choice for Australia’s TS Cloud. The 2 billion budget also includes funding for three new purpose-built data centers in Australia, expected to create up to 2,000 jobs. Dave Levy, Vice President of AWS worldwide, expressed support for the partnership, highlighting the importance of securely sharing data, accelerating innovation, and achieving missions more efficiently.
