Amazon Cloud Disrupted After ‘Objects’ Hit UAE Data Center

Amazon Web Services Inc. suffered a disruption to its services after unidentified objects struck one of its data centers in the United Arab Emirates, causing a fire.

AWS said the incident, which took place around 4:30 p.m. Dubai time on Sunday, impacted services from the data center in one of its regional groups. Power to the facility was shut off by the fire department as they worked to extinguish the blaze, according to a post on its website. The company said in a separate post it was investigating connectivity and power issues in Bahrain.

While it is unclear if the UAE incident is related to the conflict between the US and Iran, the fire broke out on the same day Iranian projectiles struck the country in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials.
