AWS announces that companies in Europe can reduce energy consumption by nearly 80 percent by running their applications in the AWS cloud instead of running their own data centers. The claim can be found in an AWS-commissioned report from 451 Research.

We learn that companies could potentially further reduce carbon emissions from an average workload – by as much as 96 percent – once AWS reaches its goal of 100 percent renewable energy, a goal the company will achieve by 2025 want. The 451 researchers found that compared to the computing resources of an average European company, cloud servers are about three times more energy efficient and AWS data centers are up to five times more energy efficient.
