(Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc’s cloud service, Amazon Web Services, has shut down the infrastructure and accounts associated with Israeli surveillance provider NSO Group, US media group Vice reported on Monday at https://bit.ly / 3zbxRuU.
NSO Group’s spyware was used in attempted and successful hacks of 37 smartphones by journalists, government officials and human rights activists around the world, according to a study by 17 media organizations published on Sunday.
NSO denied the report, saying its product is only for use by state intelligence and law enforcement agencies to fight terrorism and crime.
“When we found out about this activity, we acted quickly to close the relevant infrastructure and accounts,” an Amazon spokesman said in a statement on Monday.
Amazon did not immediately clarify whether the accounts were related to the NSO Group.
