AWS recognizes the importance of experimentation, especially for startup teams in the early stages of innovation. That’s why they launched the AWS Activate program, providing over $6 billion in credits to help startup founders test different technologies on the AWS Cloud with little to no upfront cost. Today, they announced that AWS Activate credits can now be redeemed for third-party models on The bedrock of the Amazona fully managed service offering high-performance base models (FMs) from top AI companies through a single API. This allows founders to experiment with these models and build responsible generative AI applications with security and privacy. AWS aims to make it easier for startups to find the right FMs for their use cases.

By offering comprehensive generative AI support, AWS is helping startups worldwide harness the potential of generative AI to enhance customer experiences, boost productivity, and discover new business opportunities. Extending AWS Activate credits to Amazon Bedrock enables startups to incorporate generative AI into their solutions from the beginning. AWS’s partnership with Y Combinator has been instrumental in supporting over 3,000 companies, including 60 unicorns, with a valuation exceeding $600 billion. Michael Seibel, Group Partner at Y Combinator, highlighted the critical role of AWS in helping companies build products and services that are used and loved globally.

Since 2009, AWS has provided funding and technical support to Y Combinator companies such as Stripe, Brex, and Rappi, totaling over $125 million in the last three years alone. Over 70% of Y Combinator-funded companies choose AWS as their cloud provider, with a rising number embracing AI/ML technologies. For the January 2024 Y Combinator cohort, AWS offered $500,000 in credits to help startups access high-performance infrastructure for developing generative AI applications. These benefits include training deep learning models, faster inference generation, reserved GPU capacity, and access to third-party FMs on Amazon Bedrock.

Any startup can join AWS Activate and claim up to $100,000 in credits to offset AWS services costs, including infrastructure, AI/ML technologies, and more. This initiative aligns with AWS’s commitment to supporting startup founders on their innovation journey and helping them leverage the latest technologies to drive growth and success.
