Amazon tells employees it plans to cut 16,000 jobs after email leak

Amazon After mistakenly sending an email to its employees, the company has now officially told employees that it plans to cut around 16,000 jobs worldwide as it streamlines its operations.

It’s the latest major round of job cuts at the retail tech giant, coming just three months after it cut 14,000 jobs.

The majority of jobs affected by the latest cuts are expected to be in the US, but there will also be some job losses in the UK. The company did not disclose how many British workers will be affected.

Beth GalettiSenior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon told employees in a blog post:

As I shared in October, we have been working to strengthen our organization by reducing shifts, increasing ownership and reducing bureaucracy.

Some of you may be wondering if this is the start of a new cadence where we announce major reductions every few months. That’s not our plan.
