Alphabet outperforms Apple in AI

Alphabet (GOOGL) has overtaken Apple (AAPL) to become the world’s second most valuable company for the first time since 2019, as investors back the company’s momentum in artificial intelligence (AI), including advances in Gemini and custom TPUs. “With robust core businesses, improving cloud fundamentals and a strengthening AI product cycle, we see GOOGL well positioned to drive earnings,” Jefferies analysts wrote in a note seen by I’m looking for alpha. In contrast, Apple still lags behind its competitors when it comes to AI.

Samsung increases DRAM demand

Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) forecasts record quarterly profits as AI-driven chip demand triggers a significant turnaround. The memory chip leader expects fourth-quarter operating profit to triple year-over-year, beating estimates, with revenue rising 23%. Daniel Kim, head of Korea research at Macquarie Capital, said Financial Times that “the best is yet to come as DRAM shortages make Samsung’s HBM performance a secondary concern.”
