Alphabet and Google appoint Anat Ashkenazi, former CFO of Eli Lilly, as new CFO.

Anat Ashkenazi, a long-time Eli Lilly and Company executive, has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer of Alphabet Inc. and Google, effective July 31. She will be taking over from Ruth Porat, who has been promoted to the role of President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google. Ashkenazi has been with Lilly for 23 years, serving in various financial and leadership roles including Senior Vice President, Controller, and CFO of Lilly Research Laboratories. She has also led the corporate strategy team and business transformation office and served as CFO of global business areas.

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai expressed his excitement about having Ashkenazi on board, praising her strategic focus on long-term investments for driving innovation and growth. Pichai also mentioned the company’s plans to invest in the next wave of growth in the age of AI, and looks forward to collaborating with Ashkenazi in achieving these goals.

In a statement, Ashkenazi acknowledged Google’s remarkable growth over the past 25 years in impacting billions of people and millions of businesses worldwide. She expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to make a significant impact in her new role and is honored to join the leadership team led by Sundar Pichai.

During her time at Lilly, Ashkenazi oversaw the financial aspects of the company as it experienced a surge in sales and demand for weight-loss drugs. Lilly is known for products such as Mounjaro, a type 2 diabetes drug that has shown weight-loss benefits, and Zepbound, an obesity drug approved by the FDA. The company reported a 26% increase in global revenue in the first quarter of the year, driven by the success of these new products.

Ashkenazi will continue to serve as Lilly’s CFO and member of the executive committee until July, at which point she will transition into her new role at Alphabet Inc. and Google. The company has already begun the search for her successor, both internally and externally. With her extensive experience and track record of financial leadership, Ashkenazi is poised to bring valuable insights and strategic direction to Alphabet and Google as they navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and innovation.
