We understand if you’ve had a hard time keeping track of everything that’s happened over the past week. However, in case you forgot, Blizzard hosted an Overwatch 2 showcase on Thursday, June 16th.
Blizzard has taken this time to give fans a deeper dive into everything new in Overwatch 2, due out on October 4th. Among the many big changes announced at the event is the move to a seasonal Battle Pass model. Since Overwatch 2 is free to play, Blizzard is also changing things up by bringing new content to the game every nine weeks. At the same time, the studio will split the Battle Pass into free and premium tiers, each of which will offer a wide range of cosmetics, among other things.
This upcoming Overwatch 2 Battle Pass system will replace Overwatch loot boxes and come with a new in-game store.
Here’s a quick rundown of everything Blizzard revealed at the June 16 event:
It’s funny how things can change in half a decade. Most would have laughed at the idea of a free-to-play Overwatch when it first came out. On the other hand, we wouldn’t be surprised if the move made Overwatch 2 even more popular than the original title.
Billing Overwatch 2 as a true evolution of Overwatch, Blizzard definitely ticks all the boxes. It’s not just because Overwatch 2 will be free to play, but with content plans already stretching well into next year, it’s clear that Blizzard has done its homework. With many improvements presumably planned between major updates and beyond, Overwatch 2 could reach new heights once it releases in October.
In the meantime, you can get an early look at Overwatch 2 Register for the second PvP beta on June 28th.
