Last month Dell announced one Set of concepts aimed at improving productivity. Now is the time to talk about gaming as the company’s Alienware brand announces Concept Nyx. Concept Nyx aims to lead us into the future of gaming by solving many of the problems we face today.
Here is an example. As we’ve seen, game streaming is picking up speed, so you can play AAA titles on any screen, big and small. But that takes a bit of bandwidth, and when you have a whole family of people playing, this is going to be a pain point. Concept Nyx takes a lot of this computing and brings it to the local area network. In other words, it’s edge computing, but for gaming.
Among other things, this offers much lower latency. Computing is done locally, so no commands are sent to and from a remote server. If you’re playing multiplayer, this local processing is even more important.
With Concept Nyx you can also switch seamlessly between devices. The example provided by Alienware plays Cyberpunk 2077 in your bedroom, and then when you go to cook, you can pass it on to your friend on the 65-inch TV in the living room. All of this happens with a single-digit millisecond latency.
This should of course be as easy to use as possible. Alienware compared Concept Nyx to the ease of playing your favorite music, TV show, or movie. You just install an app on your devices and you get the experience throughout your home.
Obviously, this is a concept that your home game setup cannot invest in. However, this is something that Alienware will continue to develop. While it may not appear as a standalone product, you will almost certainly see elements of it in the future.
