When Airtree Ventures appointed 37-year-old partner Elicia McDonald as its first managing director last week, one of Australia’s largest and most influential venture capital firms admitted the traditional model of technology investing needed to change in the age of artificial intelligence.
Like law firms, VC largely follows a cozy partnership model where key decisions are discussed between the owners. But as AI accelerates the potential for businesses to fail or fail, Airtree is among the first to decide they need someone to call the shots.
