One of the UK’s most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputers is being used by researchers in a £1.2 million ($1.5 million) eye study.

Scientists at the University of Essex are investigating whether mental fatigue and poor concentration are reflected in the eyes.

They were given 10,000 hours of access to the government-funded technology known as Isambard AI.

Head of research Dr. Javier Andreu-Perez said the machine would offer “new insights” into human behavior.

It is used to operate and explore large-scale models that integrate data from people and their environment.

Dr. Andreu-Perez hoped to gain a detailed understanding of how the eye behaves, responds and is influenced by cognition.

“Our project involves collecting and analyzing eye movements in natural environments,” he said.
