AI leads to ‘structural reset’ as thousands of jobs lost, expert says

Two major companies have announced thousands of mass layoffs in the last two days AI-driven efficiency, and one expert says this is just the beginning.

But Richard Valente, vice president of customer experience strategy at TP Australia, who works with large companies on AI transformation of customer experience and workplace strategy, said these decisions were not just about cost cutting but about a fundamental redesign of what an employee is.

“This is not a cyclical job cuts. This is a structural reset of the workforce,” Valente said.

“The era of large transaction processing teams is coming to an end. Banks are moving to smaller, highly specialized workforces that manage AI systems, interpret complex data and intervene when things go wrong.”
