The fairy dust of artificial intelligence is currently being scattered liberally. But turmoil, hype and unprofitable business models may only get you so far. Although the word “mathematics” is barely mentioned in all of this, at some point you have to deal with the numbers.
Governments, industry and markets have largely overlooked the cornerstone of mathematics with all the insane amounts of money being poured into these technologies. It is high time that the mathematical community is recognized as a critical factor in deriving real value and benefits from this sector.
