“AI is not the enemy. Our lack of nuance is”: Liz Seabrook on what’s next for creatives

As I was scrolling through the spiritual vacuum of Instagram the other day, I paused at a Creative Review story about It’s Archie, a talent agency with a shiny new roster of artists working exclusively with AI. As a freelance photographer, I was of course fascinated. The quotes pointed to changes in photography and, most importantly, the fact that AI is not self-governing; Artists use it to bring their visions to life.

In the comments section, a fellow photographer exclaimed, “So boring,” while another brought up the topic of plagiarism. A number of other people called out Creative Review for platforming such, to put it another way, creatively bankrupt sloppiness. Some even went so far as to claim they were “unfollowing.” I for one was frustrated, and not for the first time. Here’s my attempt to explain why these comments upset me.
