With the ongoing rollout of AI support tools, UNSW is entering the next phase of our AI journey.
The launch of OpenAI ChatGPT Edu for contingent and permanent employees, as well as other recommended AI tools, marks an important milestone. This is the start of ensuring you can use AI support tools safely, ethically and responsibly.
“AI isn’t just for tech enthusiasts, it’s for all of us,” said Dr. Christine Burns, UNSW Chief Information Officer.
“We are introducing these tools to improve and support our work, the way we learn, research and collaborate, while maintaining our strong focus on ethics, privacy and academic integrity.”
How we got here
In 2024-2025, UNSW led one of the largest AI pilot programs in the higher education sector. Staff across all faculties tested tools like Copilot and ChatGPT, helping to shape how AI can support our work safely, ethically and effectively.
