AI: IBM and Gujarat government sign agreement to create AI cluster at GIFT City

IBM and the Government of Gujarat have joined forces to establish an AI Cluster leveraging IBM’s Watsonx at the Gujarat International Finance Tec City (GIFT). Financial institutions in the city will benefit from access to AI Sandbox, proofs of concept, AI literacy programs, and digital assistant solutions. This collaboration aims to foster innovation and collaboration among financial institutions in GIFT City.

The partnership between IBM and the Government of Gujarat was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Saturday. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed optimism about the potential for AI adoption and digital transformation in the state as a result of this collaboration. Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, highlighted the strategic importance of AI for businesses in driving competitive advantage through improved productivity, innovation, and customer experience.

Watsonx, IBM’s artificial intelligence and data platform, will provide software technologies and platforms in a cloud environment for financial institutions in GIFT City. This will allow for customization and tuning of AI models in various languages within a sandbox environment. Furthermore, IBM will develop a digital assistant-based solution to streamline the onboarding and integration of custom language models for financial institutions.

In addition to technological support, IBM is committed to empowering individuals through education. As part of the MoU, IBM will develop an AI curriculum for schools and colleges across Gujarat. This initiative is aligned with IBM’s goal to empower 30 million people and train 2 million students in AI by 2030.

Through this collaboration, IBM and the Government of Gujarat seek to accelerate the state’s digital transformation by making AI solutions easily accessible to financial institutions in GIFT City. The establishment of an AI Cluster will promote innovation and collaboration, ultimately benefiting the vibrant and growing financial sector in the region. This partnership signifies a significant step towards leveraging AI to drive progress and competitiveness in the financial services industry.
