Getty ImagesJust a few weeks ago, one of the “godfathers” of artificial intelligence was at St. James’s Palace, where he was presented with an award by King Charles for his work in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
Professor Yann LeCun was honored alongside six other honorees for his contributions to the field, considered pioneers of deep learning.
But Mr. LeCun disagrees with some in the AI world about the future of the generation-defining technology.
And now he’s fully embracing his idea of ”advanced machine intelligence” after announcing he’s leaving his role as lead AI scientist at Meta to start a new company.
During his 12 years at the company, Prof. LeCun won the prestigious Turing Award and witnessed several excitements around AI – not least the recent boom in generative AI, accelerated by competitor OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT in late 2022.
