AI-generated news should have “nutrition” labels and tech companies must pay publishers for the content they use, a left-leaning think tank has said, as technology is increasingly used as a source of current events.
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) said AI firms were quickly becoming the new “gatekeepers” of the internet and that intervention was needed to create a healthy AI news environment.
Standardized labels for AI-generated messages have been recommended that show what information was used to create these responses, including peer-reviewed studies and articles from professional news organizations. She also called for the introduction of a licensing system in the UK that would allow publishers to negotiate with technology companies over the use of their content in AI news.
