The Productivity Commission says the government should conduct a three-year review of Australia’s copyright settings before considering a possible exemption for artificial intelligence.
The commission’s final report after a lengthy inquiry into data and technology was handed to Treasurer Jim Chalmers last week and found it was premature to call for immediate changes to copyright law. Instead, the government has been asked to launch a formal review, which could lead to changes from 2028.
