A company behind an AI-powered app called CrimeRadar has apologized for the distress caused by false crime alerts to local US communities following an investigation by BBC Verify.
CrimeRadar uses artificial intelligence to monitor publicly available police radio communications, automatically create a transcript, and then generate crime alerts for users across the United States.
BBC Verify has found multiple cases from Florida to Oregon where CrimeRadar sent misleading and inaccurate serious crime alerts to residents – as Thomas Copeland explains.
