Afterpay co-founder Nick Molnar has defended Block’s decision to cut more than 4,000 jobs in the name of artificial intelligence, rejecting claims that the cuts were due to years of overstaffing rather than real technological change.
In an interview with this imprint, Molnar — who serves as Block’s global head of sales and marketing — said the layoffs announced by CEO Jack Dorsey last week reflected a structural shift in the way tech companies operate.
“This is not about making a decision from a position of weakness,” Molnar said. “It’s about making a decision from a position of strength.”
