According to Oracle, the weather-related data center outage caused TikTok problems in the US

TikTok users are experiencing glitches, problems logging in, and difficulty posting voiced content Claims of censorship by the app’s new US owner this week. But based in Austin Oracle Corp. – which is part of its new owners – says the technical problems are related to winter storms.

Oracle took responsibility for the problems some users of the social media app experienced over the weekend, saying they were caused by a weather-related power outage at a data center.

Oracle spokesman Michael Egbert said the Austin tech giant and TikTok are working to fix the issue.

The platform signed agreements with major investors including Oracle, Silver Lake Technology Management LLC and MGX Fund Management Ltd. to form the joint venture. TikTok said last week the app would operate under “defined safeguards that protect national security through comprehensive data protection, algorithm security, content moderation and software guarantees for U.S. users.”
