Apple Inc. (AAPL.O) on Wednesday said Antonio García Martínez, a former Facebook Inc. (FB.O) The product manager who recently joined Apple to work in the advertising business is no longer with the company.

García Martínez, who came to Silicon Valley after a stay on Wall Street, wrote the book “Chaos Monkeys” in 2016 about his time in the tech industry. He joined Apple in April as a product engineer in Apple’s advertising platform business, according to his LinkedIn page.

Technology news publication The Verge reported on Wednesday that more than 2,000 Apple employees had signed an internal petition sent to company executives, with concerns about what the petitioners in the book identified as sexist and racist views and whether Apple had followed its own rules in hiring García Martínez.

Apple said García Martínez was no longer with the company but did not provide any further details.

“At Apple, we’ve always strived to create an inclusive, welcoming workplace where everyone is respected and accepted. Behaviors that degrade or discriminate against the people they are for have no place here,” a statement said the company.

García Martínez did not immediately respond to a request for comments outside of normal business hours.
