Site performance is critical when building applications on the modern web. It has a direct impact on user experience, search engine ranking, and user conversion rates. With Azure Static Web Apps we have set ourselves the goal of building a platform with which you can deliver the best results to your users worldwide. It offers optimized full-stack development and hosting for static content and serverless APIs to enable high productivity from source code to global high availability.

Today we announce the preview of the Azure Static Web Apps Enterprise-class edge powered by Azure front door This enables faster page loading, improved security, and increased reliability for your global apps without the need for configuration or additional code.

“Static Web Apps helped us to deliver our EasyLife 365 solution quickly and reliably to our customers worldwide. I recommend this service to anyone looking for enterprise grade static content hosting on Azure. ”- Patrick Lamber, CEO, EasyLife 365

This new feature includes improved protection against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, significantly reducing latency and helping to increase throughput for your global users.

Improve page speed

With Azure Static Web Apps, our HTTP load balancer determines today, when a user visits your site, the closest node to their location and deploys your application from there. When one of our global regions goes down, we intelligently route your users’ requests to the next healthy node on the network. In this way, you can set up your application in a fail-safe manner across regions, perform an immediate failover and offer your users “always-on” website availability. Activating the corporate advantage will further increase your global presence by caching the static content of your website via 118+ Points of Presence (POP) in 100 metropolises. As a result, your app will run with lower latency and higher throughput for your end users.

Faster page views not only improve the user experience, but they also have a positive effect on your search engine rankings and ultimately lead to higher user conversion.

Secure your applications in a globally provided network

As the number of users you serve increases, so too does the likelihood of malicious attacks such as DDoS. Activating your applications on an enterprise-class edge can prevent attackers from reaching your application and affecting the availability and performance of your application. The full scope and capacity of our worldwide network offer protection against common attacks on the network layer through permanent traffic monitoring and real-time defense.

With this feature enabled, you run your websites on Microsoft’s global application and content delivery network, which has been running major web workloads for many years and providing its resilience and self-recovery capabilities. In addition, global services like Azure DevOps, LinkedIn and Xbox Live run and offer a lightning-fast and reliable application experience.

Our enterprise edge is a no-configuration cloud content delivery service that includes CDN and application acceleration. Once you enable this feature for your production applications, we’ll migrate your live traffic to our improved global distributed network with zero downtime.
