The next upgrade cycle for Apple ((NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhones will be part of a “super swap cycle,” and one analyst predicts that the tech giant will offer a foldable iPhone in 2023 to match the trend.
MacRumors reported on Sunday that there had been a research lead to investors from TF International Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who says the feature-rich phone will come with a flexible 8-inch QHD + LED OLED display. He predicts that Apple will ship 15 to 20 million foldable iPhones in 2023.
On a more upbeat and optimistic note, Kuo said that Apple will likely be the biggest winner among foldable smartphone manufacturers, which will be the mandatory technology that consumers must have.
Currently, a foldable phone is designed to combine the convenience and performance of a smartphone and a tablet computer. However, further technological developments will also expand the discreet functions of laptops.
Kuo wrote that Apple has a strong competitive advantage over the long term. “With its cross-product ecosystems and hardware design advantages, Apple will be the biggest winner in the new foldable device trend,” he said.
The analyst says development of the foldable iPhone has not yet officially started, but he made the prediction based on his latest industry survey.
Samsung was a leader in foldable phonesLG and Motorola have since joined the Galaxy Fold, despite LG announcing it will exit the smartphone market.
Kuo believes that all major smartphone manufacturers need a foldable device as it will be the focus of the next “super replacement cycle” for high-end models. But this is not the first time Speculation has surfaced about Apple in developing a foldable phone.
