What is Huawei
Huawei is a telecommunications company based in Shenzhen, China that manufactures and sells network equipment and consumer electronics such as smartphones. In July, the company became the largest smartphone maker, outperforming Samsung after outperforming Apple in 2018. However, the technology titan may not be familiar to many in the United States for reasons explained in the next section.
How is Huawei’s relationship with the US?
The US’s top concern is based on fears that Huawei may allow the Chinese Communist Party to spy on individuals and companies who use its technology. Huawei denies this, but the US has taken several measures over the past few years to limit the company’s ability to use American products and make sales in the US.
