Google Photos recently announced that it would be offering its Magic Editor and other AI-powered tools for free to all Android and iOS users. This includes Pixel owners, who are now starting to see the rollout of these features. The Magic Editor, which was launched with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, allows users to move, resize, or delete parts of a photo, as well as apply contextual presets like Sky, Golden Hour, and Stylized. Users can access the Magic Editor by clicking on a button in the bottom left corner of the editing interface.

Going forward, all Google Photos users will receive 10 files saved to the Magic Editor library per month. However, further edits will require a Google One Premium (2+TB) plan or for users to be Pixel owners. The hardware requirements for using these features on Android include OS 8.0+, 4+ GB of RAM, and a 64-bit chipset. In addition to the Magic Editor, other AI tools that will be available for free to all Google Photos users include magic eraser, Blur, suggestions from heaven, pop color, HDR effect for photos and videos, Portrait blur, Portrait Light, cinematic photos, Styles in the collage editor, and Video effects.

Google announced last month that the rollout of these features would begin on May 15 and Pixel owners are now starting to see the availability of these tools. Previously, these features required a Google One subscription, but the company has made changes to make them accessible to all users. The company has also made other changes, such as discontinuing the Google One VPN service.

This move to offer AI-powered editing tools for free to all users is a significant development in Google Photos’ efforts to enhance the photo editing experience for its users. The rollout of these features to Pixel owners will further enhance the capabilities of the device’s camera system and provide users with more creative options when editing their photos. Overall, this change is likely to be well-received by both current and future users of Google Photos.
