Intel is set to release its new Lunar Lake processors for laptops, which will be part of the Copilot+ line of PCs. These processors are expected to provide over 3 times the AI performance compared to the previous generation, with more than 40 tera NPU operations per second. Intel plans to ship these new processors in over 80 different Windows laptops from 20 PC makers starting in the third quarter of 2024, just in time for the holiday season.
Once the Lunar Lake processors are available in new laptops, an update will be released to enable PC Copilot+ features, such as the Remember feature, to work on these devices. Intel aims to ship around 40 million AI-enabled PC processors this year.
Although Intel may not be the first to launch Copilot+ PC chips, high prices for Qualcomm Snapdragon X laptops could impact demand. It will be interesting to see how Lunar Lake and Snapdragon X compare in benchmarks. Additionally, AMD is working on new laptop chips with AI-based neural processors under the Strix brand, but details about these chips are limited at this time.
