Amazon has introduced the next generation of Amazon FSx file systems for NetApp ONTAP, offering increased scalability and flexibility compared to previous systems. The previous generation file systems consisted of a single pair of highly available file servers with up to 4 GBps of throughput. The new systems can now be built or expanded with up to 12 pairs, allowing for a total throughput of 72 GB/s (6 GBps per pair). This provides users with the ability to scale performance and storage to meet demanding workloads.
With the new FSx file systems, a single pair can deliver up to 6 GBps of throughput, giving workloads more room to grow. For customers with compute-intensive workloads, multiple HA pairs offer increased performance. Previously, customers could not add pairs or adjust performance after creating a multi-pair file system. Now, the next-generation file systems allow for adding pairs and adjusting performance capacity, providing more flexibility to optimize workload performance over time.
The Next-Generation File Systems are currently available in several AWS Regions, including US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), and Asia Pacific (Sydney). Users can create Multi-AZ File Systems with a single pair and Single-AZ File Systems with up to 12 pairs. More information can be found in the FSx for ONTAP User Guide on the website.
