Mirantis expands on OpenStack to provide an alternative to VMware

Mirantis has released a new option called Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes (MOSK) for dissatisfied VMware customers unhappy with Broadcom’s price increases. MOSK 24.2 features a new Distributed Resource Balancer (DRB) comparable to VMware‘s DRS. MOSK is user-friendly and aims to reduce OpenStack training needs. It runs on Ceph Reef and offers network services through OVN, OVS, and OpenSDN. The new DRB load balancer dynamically schedules containers for better performance.

Mirantis suggests MOSK as an alternative to VMware, allowing for minimal disruption when converting VM-based workloads. Mirantis and VMware have different approaches to supporting VMs and containers, with Mirantis focusing on Kubernetes and deployments via Mirantis Container Cloud. Migration tools and consulting services are available for organizations looking to switch to MOSK. Mirantis also offers training for VMware administrators to become OpenStack experts.

MOSK pricing is based on per-core usage, and the company emphasizes cost savings through reduced administration overhead. A TCO calculator is provided, and pricing can be negotiated for corporate customers. Interested individuals can learn more about MOSK 24.2 by watching a webinar scheduled for July 12 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time on The New Stack’s YouTube channel.
