Hitachi Construction Machinery Implements Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to Drive Digital Transformation

Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. has chosen Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to migrate its large-scale enterprise systems, including accounting, development, production, and sales. By utilizing Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and Oracle Exadata Database Service, the company achieved a fast and reliable cloud migration with minimal application and database changes. This migration is part of Hitachi’s digital transformation efforts to unify construction equipment data and prepare for AI deployment.

The decision to migrate to OCI was driven by its secure migration strategy, improved business continuity, and reduced total cost of ownership. Hitachi Construction Machinery has experienced benefits such as scaling resources quickly, increasing flexibility, and reducing infrastructure operating costs by 20 percent. Performance improvements have also been notable, with online transaction processing improving by 50 percent and batch processing by 60 percent across several core business systems.

Noriko Momoki, CEO and President of Hitachi Construction Machinery’s DX Promotion Group, highlighted OCI as the only public cloud capable of securely migrating mission-critical databases running on Oracle Exadata and VMware virtualization environments. The company plans to migrate around 500 virtual servers and 100 databases to OCI, enhancing architecture, automation, performance, data security, and cost optimization without application changes. A new disaster recovery environment in Oracle Cloud Tokyo and Osaka regions will further strengthen business continuity.

Ashish Ray, Vice President of Mission Critical Database Technologies at Oracle, emphasized the role of Exadata Database Service and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution in enabling Hitachi Construction Machinery to migrate systems quickly and reliably, capture economic cloud benefits, and meet performance expectations. The company aims to modernize applications to a cloud-native OCI environment, migrate remaining databases, and leverage AI and multicloud capabilities for its DX platform.

Oracle, a provider of integrated application suites and secure infrastructure on Oracle Cloud, continues to support organizations in accelerating digital transformation. Oracle’s offerings, such as Java, MySQL, and NetSuite, are trademarks of Oracle Corporation. Overall, Hitachi Construction Machinery’s cloud migration to OCI signifies a significant step towards driving digital transformation in the construction equipment industry.
