IBM and Microsoft have announced a strengthened collaboration on cybersecurity to help clients simplify and modernize their security operations and protect their identities in the hybrid cloud. As organizations increasingly use hybrid cloud and AI for innovation, they require advanced security capabilities to safeguard their most valuable data. The partnership combines IBM Consulting’s cybersecurity services with Microsoft’s comprehensive security technology portfolio to offer clients tools and expertise to streamline and modernize their security operations, utilize cloud capabilities, safeguard data, and drive business growth.

Mark Hughes, global managing partner of IBM Consulting’s cybersecurity services, emphasized that security must be a fundamental part of every organization’s operations in today’s complex digital landscape. The collaboration with Microsoft aims to provide clients with a simplified, efficient, and cost-effective approach to protecting cloud workloads and managing the various threats organizations face regularly.

IBM’s cloud-native Threat Detection and Response (TDR) service integrates Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender XDR, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud with IBM’s AI-powered security technologies to enhance threat detection and response for clients. IBM Consulting’s global team of security analysts delivers 24×7 monitoring, investigation, and automated remediation of security alerts in clients’ hybrid cloud environments. The service also helps clients optimize their security operations to maximize the benefits of Microsoft’s security solutions.

Identity management in the cloud is a crucial aspect of organizations’ cybersecurity strategies, and IBM Consulting and Microsoft have collaborated on a comprehensive solution based on the Microsoft Entra toolset and IBM’s automation, accelerators, and industry knowledge. This solution streamlines the journey to the cloud, optimizes the identity landscape, and reduces costs associated with running multiple identity tools and services for clients.

Both companies are investing in joint go-to-market initiatives and training programs to support the new offerings and assist clients in prioritizing security in their cloud and AI adoption journeys. IBM Consulting’s 1,300 Microsoft-certified security professionals have been trained on natively integrating Microsoft-based security tools, such as the Microsoft Defender suite and services, across clients’ complex cloud and application landscapes.

The collaboration has demonstrated success with clients like Vale, a mining company, whose Global CISO, Dan Harif, highlighted the effectiveness of combining Microsoft’s security technology with IBM Consulting’s threat detection and response services in protecting Vale’s operations.

Overall, the partnership between IBM and Microsoft aims to provide clients with enhanced cybersecurity solutions to navigate the evolving digital landscape, protect their data, and drive innovation securely in the hybrid cloud environment.
