Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. has recently chosen Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to migrate its essential business systems to the cloud. By utilizing Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and Oracle Exadata Database Service on OCI, the company successfully conducted a seamless migration with minimal adjustments to its existing applications and databases. This move by Hitachi Construction Machinery is part of its digital transformation initiative to consolidate data from critical systems and construction machinery and prepare for future AI integration.
The decision to opt for OCI was driven by the secure migration strategy it offered without the need for application modifications. The company has since benefitted from improved business continuity, reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), and the ability to quickly scale its resources as needed. As a result, Hitachi Construction Machinery has slashed its infrastructure operating costs by 20 percent while witnessing a significant boost in online and batch processing performance on multiple key business systems.
Noriko Momoki, the senior officer and president of DX Promotion Group at Hitachi Construction Machinery, highlighted that OCI was the only public cloud capable of swiftly migrating mission-critical databases running on Oracle Exadata and VMware environments, thereby avoiding configuration changes and cost escalations. The enhanced performance has not only expedited business processing but also alleviated operational burdens, allowing the IT department to concentrate on enhancing the company’s competitiveness through new projects.
The migration process involves moving around 500 virtual servers and 100 databases to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and Oracle Exadata Database Service on OCI. This transition will provide Hitachi Construction Machinery with a superior architecture, automation capabilities, enhanced performance, availability, data protection configurations, and optimized costs without necessitating modifications to its applications. Moreover, the company is establishing a new disaster recovery setup using Oracle Cloud Tokyo and Osaka regions to fortify business continuity.

In the future, Hitachi Construction Machinery plans to modernize its applications to cloud-native OCI and transfer its remaining databases from on-premises settings.
