AWS Billing and Cost Management now offers Data Exports for the Cost Optimization Center, allowing users to receive cost optimization recommendations in CSV or Parquet format on a recurring basis. These exports can be customized using basic SQL queries or column/row filters in the console, and can be shared with stakeholders, uploaded to BI dashboards, or added to Cloud Financial Management data lakes.

The Cost Optimization Hub, launched at the 2023 re:Invent, offers free features for reviewing cost-saving opportunities, such as resizing Amazon EC2 instances, AWS Graviton migration, and spending and usage commitments like reserved instances and Savings Plans. The dashboard provides an overview of recommendations with estimated savings and allows for filtering and grouping by various fields to prioritize based on savings and effort.

Data Exports were made available in AWS Billing and Cost Management around the same time, enabling customization of billing and cost management data exports. With Data Exports for Cost Optimization Hub, users can configure exports of cost optimization recommendations to Amazon S3 with applied data filters and savings deduplication preferences, ensuring up-to-date recommendations and easy integration into reports and dashboards.

John Phillips, General Manager of Cloud Finance Engineering and Product Management at AWS, emphasizes the importance of cost optimization and the ease of access through the Cost Optimization Hub. Data Exports for Cost Optimization Hub streamlines the process of systematically receiving optimization data sets to maximize value from AWS’s offerings.

To access Data Exports for Cost Optimization Hub, users must register via the console or API, and enable AWS Compute Optimizer for sizing and idle recommendations. Exports can be created through the Billing and Cost Management Console by selecting the “Data Exports” or “Cost Optimization Center” options in the navigation bar. Users can then configure the export by specifying the S3 delivery location, selecting columns, applying row filters, and choosing to deduplicate cost savings.

For those using the Cost Optimization Hub console, a recurring export to Amazon S3 can be created directly from the page. The preferences set on previous sources, such as Compute Optimizer, will transfer to the Cost Optimization Center to prevent double-counting of potential savings. Users can manage discount visibility and savings estimates to optimize cost-saving recommendations.

In conclusion, Data Exports for Cost Optimization Hub provide a streamlined process for accessing and sharing cost optimization recommendations. By leveraging these exports, users can stay up-to-date on recommendations and maximize value for their organizations.
