From Tragedy to Triumph: A Journey of Inclusion

In 1999, at the age of 23, I experienced a life-altering car accident in the mountains of São Paulo that left me paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury. The following period was characterized by emotional turmoil and uncertainty surrounding my future, including concerns about mobility, social interactions, and professional prospects. My 45-day hospitalization was marked by unwavering support from loved ones, highlighting the importance of companionship over material possessions.

Navigating life in a wheelchair exposed me to society’s tendency to focus on disability rather than the individual. However, I refused to let my chair define me and instead chose to embody a positive attitude that shifted people’s perceptions. Despite initial challenges, I engaged in physical therapy and discovered a newfound passion for activities like skydiving, which empowered me to overcome limitations and embrace life’s opportunities.

My journey post-accident involved a renewed sense of purpose as I pursued English proficiency, Six Sigma certification, and excelled in my professional career at an American multinational company. Cisco played a pivotal role in my development, allowing me to amplify my voice and contribute to promoting diversity and inclusion through initiatives like the CDAN in Latin America.

On a personal level, my wife and I faced infertility struggles that tested our resilience. Despite numerous obstacles and the emotional strain of IVF, our shared determination kept us persevering until we were blessed with the gift of parenthood. Our son, Murilo, represents the culmination of our dreams and serves as a source of immense joy and fulfillment.

Today, I lead a multifaceted life as a father, husband, advocate, and professional, embodying the belief that resilience and determination can transform challenges into sources of inspiration. My experiences reflect the power of perseverance and a positive mindset in overcoming adversity and building a meaningful legacy.
