Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) recently released its Living Progress Report, showcasing its commitment to sustainable and responsible technology solutions. The report highlights HPE’s progress towards achieving net zero emissions by 2040, a goal aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative’s Net-Zero Standard.
Antonio Neri, HPE’s president and CEO, emphasized the company’s dedication to innovating ethically and sustainably to accelerate a future focused on prosperity and sustainability.
HPE has already exceeded its 2025 target of sourcing 50% renewable electricity ahead of schedule, but acknowledges the challenge of reducing Scope 3 emissions, beyond its direct control. In 2023, HPE saw an 8% increase in overall emissions due to business growth and product mix changes.
To achieve its Scope 3 reduction targets, HPE plans to invest in decarbonizing the electricity its operations, suppliers, and customers rely on. The company is holding its leaders accountable for meeting net zero goals through variable compensation tied to climate metrics.
HPE invested $2.35 billion in research and development in 2023, focusing on next-gen technologies to reduce energy consumption and move towards net-zero carbon emissions. The company’s sustainable IT offerings, launching this year, aim to address environmental challenges across all levels, from data centers to individual devices.
HPE’s supercomputing systems have demonstrated advancements in energy efficiency, with 103 systems ranking on the Green500 list of the most energy-efficient supercomputers. The latest HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers offer increased computing capabilities in a smaller footprint, reducing costs related to power and cooling.
On the social responsibility front, HPE prioritizes respecting human rights in all operations. The company set new goals for its supply chain responsibility in 2023, including training workers and eliminating hiring fees. HPE expanded its AI Ethics Principles to guide product development and established an AI Ethics Advisory Council to ensure ethical standards alignment.
HPE’s commitment to inclusion is evident in its diverse leadership, with 46% of HPE Board members and 50% of the Executive Committee being women in 2023. The company’s efforts to engage and retain top talent have resulted in high team member engagement scores and voluntary turnover rates above industry averages.
Additionally, HPE supports startups with social impact missions through technology acceleration programs. The company has been recognized for its ethical standards and practices, ranking first on the JUST100 list and receiving accolades like the MSCI ESG AAA rating, EcoVadis Platinum recognition, and the World’s Most Ethical Companies title by Ethisphere for six consecutive years.
