I lived in San Francisco from 2013 to 2021 and initially found the experience of visiting Google’s campuses exciting. However, over time, I noticed a shift in the company’s culture, particularly during workshops where the employees seemed disconnected and unhelpful. This led me to believe that Google was becoming more corporate and less innovative. The decline in Google’s popularity was further highlighted by the increasing use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT for searches, indicating a potential shift in the dominant search engine in the future. Google’s decision to change billing options for Google Ads accounts, limiting payment methods to bank-based options, also raised concerns among advertisers like myself who prefer using credit cards. This change prompted me to consider shifting my advertising efforts to alternative platforms like Bing and social media. Overall, I believe Google needs to address its corporate image and improve its AI capabilities to stay relevant in the evolving digital landscape.
