Infineon is expanding its collaboration with Nvidia on 800V direct current (DC) power conversion technology for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

The company will supply gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors and control solutions for devices that step down 800V to intermediate voltages used by server boards.

Infineon said Oct. 21 local time that it is expanding its collaboration with Nvidia on high-voltage intermediate bus converters (HV IBCs). The initiative builds on a partnership announced in 2025, which focused on protection circuits for 800V server racks.

An IBC converts the high voltage supplied to a server into an intermediate voltage used inside the board. This voltage is then converted again to the voltage required by the graphics processing unit (GPU) core. Infineon supports configurations that step down 800V to 50V, 12V and 6V.

Growing GPU power consumption is driving interest in 800V DC systems. As AI data centers deploy large numbers of GPUs, power consumption per rack is reaching megawatt levels. Nvidia is developing an architecture that delivers 800V DC directly to server racks, alongside conventional alternating current (AC) and low-voltage DC approaches, while building an ecosystem around the technology. This reduces power losses and wiring requirements.
