Nvidia (NVDA -4.40%) isn’t the first stock that comes to mind when discussing quantum computing. That’s probably because it isn’t building a quantum computer or quantum computing chip, nor does it plan to. Given that, you might wonder why it could even be considered a quantum computing investment.
The answer to that is that there’s more to quantum computing than the actual computing units, and Nvidia is leaning heavily into the support side, which makes it a pretty good offshoot investment. Combine that with the massive AI build-out tailwind ongoing right now, and you have a recipe for a stock that could have several years’ worth of strong growth ahead.

Nvidia predicts a hybrid quantum computing environment
Quantum computers perform computations in ways that are fundamentally different from traditional machines. While they have the potential to be incredibly useful in some unusual situations where the math gets so complex that it would take a standard supercomputer years to deliver an answer, quantum computers will never be appropriate tools for most of the tasks we use computers for today. Furthermore, Nvidia and others are betting that quantum computers won’t be able to function in isolation; they’ll need close support from traditional accelerated computing hardware, such as its GPUs.
To ensure that server clusters built around its processor architectures are used in the hybrid computing approach, Nvidia has launched several supporting…
