(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota residents can harvest cisco, also known as tullibee, and whitefish for personal use as fall sport netting season gets underway on designated northern lakes. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says about 700 Minnesotans participate each year. Opening dates vary by lake, depending on water temperatures and spawning conditions. Some lakes require 48-hour notice before opening or closing, while others follow set schedules. Anglers should check the D-N-R website for current dates, lake designations, and regulations. Any game fish caught in nets must be returned to the water immediately.
