Nvidia and Mercedes-Benz announced on Oct. 15 local time that they are extending their strategic partnership to develop next-generation autonomous driving systems.
The collaboration will combine Mercedes-Benz’s automotive engineering expertise and its Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) with Nvidia’s accelerated computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including Nvidia Hyperion, Alpamayo and Halos.
MB.OS supports the addition of new driving features and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
Nvidia Hyperion provides the in-vehicle computing and sensor architecture, transmitting road information collected by cameras, lidar and other sensors to a central computer.
The data is processed by the Alpamayo stack, driving software equipped with AI reasoning capabilities. The system supports point-to-point urban driving assistance, active safety features and automated parking.
Nvidia Halos adds a parallel safety stack to ensure system safety. The two companies also plan to develop Level 4 autonomous driving technology, including robo-limousines.
Beyond autonomous driving, Mercedes-Benz uses Nvidia technology in its MO360 digital production system to improve efficiency and quality across its global manufacturing plants.
