NiSource, NIPSCO’s parent company, announced a new 20-year agreement with Microsoft to help power its planned data center campus in La Porte.

The agreement is expected to start in 2028 and will add 1,100 megawatts of power resources to support the new build and surrounding customers.

The agreement says Microsoft will pay for the new power generation and transmission equipment needed to serve its data center.

NiSource President and CEO Lloyd Yates said, “Affordability is not separate from economic development.”

“This agreement reflects the balanced approach we believe is needed for Indiana to attract significant investment and create long-term jobs,” said NiSource President and CEO Lloyd Yates.

GenCo, or NiSource Generation Company, is what NiSource says it uses to serve large-load customers, such as data centers, under a separate arrangement.
