Targeting the downlink bottleneck and computational constraints of orbital spacecraft, software venture Satlyt announced an $8 million seed funding round on October 13, 2026, to deploy artificial intelligence and edge computing software directly onto orbiting satellites.
Led by Houston-based venture capital firm Non Sibi Ventures, the financing supports the startup’s mission to operate an open, cross-platform software layer that converts disparate orbital computing hardware into coordinated, virtual space data centers.
Investment Syndicate and Capital Allocation
The $8 million seed round included participation from TLcom Capital, Antler, Slauson & Co., Launch Africa Ventures, and Enza Capital. Founded by former Google Cloud and SpaceX product manager Rama Afullo, the company maintains dual headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, and Nairobi, Kenya. Rather than manufacturing dedicated spacecraft, Satlyt operates a hardware-agnostic software framework designed to execute AI workloads across third-party satellites, mirroring the virtualization models of enterprise cloud providers.
Flight Demonstration Architecture and Onboard Software Performance
Satlyt’s software runtime executes machine learning inference directly at the orbital edge, processing imagery, telemetry, and system logs locally to alleviate ground station downlink constraints. During earlier flight validation, the company ran Google DeepMind’s Gemma open-weights AI model aboard a
