The AI chipmaker, Nvidia Corp. (NVDA, Financials), is building out its presence in Europe by investing in French technology businesses that might be major consumers of artificial intelligence.Nvidia agreed to purchase a minority share in Doctolib, but the business did not reveal the size or value of the transaction. The healthcare technology business said it was working with Nvidia to build new AI solutions.Nvidia was also verified by Genesis AI as a strategic investor. These actions are tiny in relation to Nvidia’s semiconductor business, but the approach is worth tracking.Increasingly, the company has been relying on investments and partnerships to build up the wider ecosystem around its hardware and software. It can take interests in startups producing AI products to have an earlier position in sectors that might later demand greater processing power. The investments also extend Nvidia’s presence outside data centers. The acquisition provides the corporation another toehold in healthcare technology, while Genesis AI adds to its increasing collection of software-focused assets.A French tabloid also alleged that Nvidia had taken holdings in Entalpic and Pigment but the firms have not verified the deals. The next thing to monitor is whether Nvidia can transform these minority investments into deeper commercial agreements that will enhance demand for its processors, software and AI infrastructure throughout Europe.
